Haix was born in Stormhome on 20 Olarune in 973YK to Gavrin and Levini d’Lyrandar. Both of his parents were heavily involved in defending Aundair during the Last War that he ended up being raised by his aunt most of the time. One of the neighbor girls, Gwen Dekker, befriended Haix at an early age, and they quickly became inseparable.
Haix dreamed of following in his fathers footsteps and joining The Windwrights Guild and soaring through the air, and trained from a young age to sail on Lyrandar airships.
On his 21st birthday, which happened to be The Day of Mourning, Haix receives a notice that his father’s ship had crashed over Thrane lands. Both his parents died that day, but Gwen was also aboard, being an accomplished wizard at that point, and she had survived, but been captured by Thrane soldiers to be executed six days later in Flamekeep.
Haix was devastated by the news. He was lost. He spent his free time drinking and carousing and getting into fights in the slums of Stormhome until an obscene drunken tantrum got him kicked out of his aunts house. The wake-up call pushed him to leave Stormhome entirely, thinking getting away from all of the memories would help.
He left for Sharn shortly thereafter, and that is where his true adventure begins.

Down to my last few platinum. I dont think I can work in Stormhome any longer. Everywhere I go I’m reminded of Gwen. Mother and Father had lived long and hard, but Gwen was only 18 when Feildia crashed. Why did Krozen hang her?! Why?! There was no reason! I will see him and his faith crumble.
Mol 9 Olarune 998KY
I heard in Connanells Quary tonight that Thrane actually worships a bound demon and not a holy divinity. Oh the irony! Those fools think they’re soo smart…So holy, but they actually worship that which they condemn. The Silver Flame should crumble for what it did to my parents…for what it did to GWEN! I will never forgive that transgression!
Zol 10 Olarune 998YK
I havent been on an airship in a while so I spent the day sailing to Askelios. The skys were clear with a few puffy white clouds here and there. Captain Reng d’Lyrandar had me in the observation room for most of the flight…apparently my reputation at Connanells Quary has spread further than I thought. Attending the pub more than once a week was probably too much.
Needless to say I got a great view of the landscape, and especially the Starpeaks. Now thats a challenge for someone to fly through! I’ll take Thaliost back by zooming through there and catching Thrane by surprise! Flamekeep will resemble its namesake to a tee…a keep engulfed in flames!...Oh, who am I kidding? Its not as if I’m marked like father.
I arrived in Askelios before sunset, and upon docking head out to find some fun. The return journey wont be until mid morning tomorrow.
The Askellian Jig will do the trick.

Sharn is apparently a place of new beginnings. I returned to Stormhome to gather my belongings, and collect on the few debts that are owed, and then secure a job on the way to Sharn, The City of Towers! I feel a place where all kinds of different things fly around throughout the city is just the place I need.

Have secured passage into Breland by airship with only a little coaxing, and an offer of work on the voyage itself. We leave on Sar 14th of Olarune. Serving on one of the freight ships into Breland shouldn’t be a bother at all…If only Gwen could join me.
Urik managed to secure some interesting substances earlier today, and shared one of them with me. This wee vial contains a white, milky liquid that Urik says will make the pain go away. I’ll give it a try this evening.

The so called Dream Lily eased my anxieties for the day, but the desire for more lies smoldering in my heart. This will surely come back to haunt me.
Urik stoped by this evening for dinner, and dropped off a few extra vials of Lily for my trip to Sharn. He is such a kind individual. He only charged me 3 galifars a piece for the vials! I will miss him greatly.
The flight leaves at dawn tomorrow. All my things are packed, and the few acquaintances here in Stormhome have been informed of my departure. Hopefully they’ll look me up if they ever venture to Sharn. I only have about a dozen gold galifars left in my purse, but hopefully there’ll be work in the city of towers.
Sar 14 Olarune 998YK
Board the Margana just as the sun was beginning to peek over the horizon. A few of the crew are men and women I have known since I could barely walk, and they welcomed me aboard with open arms. Captain Chantal d’Lyrandar was more forgiving than Reng and allowed me on deck the first day. She pulled me aside before we departed and conveyed her understanding of my situation, and how Reng was just a hard taskmaster. She claims he knows what he’s doing, and is truly a good person, but I question the notion.
Sharn, I’m coming! I, like the phoenix, will be born anew within your body that reaches ever higher into the sky. THE SKY!!!
Sul 15 Olarune 998YK
The craving has become too strong. I hope these two vials will be enough to last until I can find a place in Sharn. I have the rest of the night off so, numb here I come.
I awoke on the floor of my cabin with a huge knot on my head, and the second vial shattered on the ground. I must have passed out when I took the first and fallen over. Care must be taken with this stuff. I should probably just restrain myself. Gwen…
Mol 16 Olarune 998YK
The Lily hangover inhibited my performance today. At least the captain didn’t notice, or if she did she didn’t care. I’m glad I didn’t botch anything truly important. Gwen, what am I to do? Mother? Father? What would you do? I have lost everything. I have left home venturing into the world out of grief. What does the future hold?
Zol 17 Olarune 998YK
I awoke with a shock as the mark of storm manifested on my left breast. I must join The Windwrights Guild, and make a place for myself in the skys! I will captain my own airship, and name her ‘Dekker’ after you, Gwen. Then we can always be together…and together we will destroy Thrane.
The sun hangs high overhead, and the towers of Sharn rear above the Margana. We will be docking within the hour. The adrenaline is beginning to build up inside me. I hope these 30 Galifars will last until I can find some steady employment. Acquiring an airship wont be easy…or cheap, but it must be done.
I was greeted at the dock by an old friend of my parents, Dover Bateu of one of the sub-families of House Lyrandar. He’s now the dockmaster in Sharn, and he spotted me as soon as I disembarked…I wish he hadn’t. He called me Daen. I corrected him. I must relinquish my old labels if I am to be born anew. He told me if I ever needed work to come see him, and to let him know where to contact me once I get settled.
It turns out that 30 Galifars wont get you much of anywhere in Sharn except in the lower wards, and not all that far down there. At least these fools have loose purse strings, and distracted minds. I’m staying in Callestan at a small place called the Silvermist. It felt right for some reason. Their entertainment is quite…eclectic.
100 Questions Haix knows about himself.
Part 1: The Basics
1 What is your full name?
Daen Fluin Ennes d’Lyrandar
2 Where and when were you born?
Stormhome 20 Olarune 973YK
3 Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)
Gavrin and Levini Ennes d’Lyrandar. Gavrin was first to pilot an airship and Levini, a very serious woman, was a high ranking member of the Raincallers Guild. Gavrin, unlike his wife, was quick to make jokes and always had a smile on his face. The both died on the 15th of Olarune 994YK when Gavrins airship went down over Thrane. Haix received the news on his birthday five days later.
4 Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
No siblings, but I have two cousins. Since that my parents were high ranking members of the House, they were very busy so I grew up with my aunt (mothers sister) Flerentia, and my two cousins Versa, and Hagro.
5 Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
I currently reside in Hareth’s Folly in the middle wards of Dura in Sharn. As part owner of The Saucy Wench I spend my time with Bonesaw, Pinter Malus, Lilane Montdragon, and a bard by the name of Shivodin who are all far more insane than I.
6 What is your occupation?
Airship Captain, Smuggler, part owner of The Saucy Wench, and associate with Boromar Clan.
7 Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.
Haix is a five and a half foot tall half elf with shoulder length, black hair, and emerald green eyes. He is lean and fair of skin with high cheekbones, a cleft chin, and thin, well groomed, eyebrows. He, over the past year, has been wearing all black with a veil around his neck that he raises when he enters battle. He believes that Gwen would be disappointed if someone with his face were to be a killer. The Lesser Mark of Storm is splayed across his left breast.
8 To which social class do you belong?
Currently I am upper-middle class but am approaching wealthy fairly quickly. As a scion of House Lyrandar I get a large boost, though I am in debt 92,000gp to the House for the use of the airship. I pay a 20% tithe to the House for its use and the crew until I buy it outright.
9 Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
No allergies, diseases, or physical weaknesses.
10 Are you right- or left-handed?
11 What does your voice sound like?
I have a very soft, melodic voice like that of a violin barely touched.
12 What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
Indeed. Phaw! Without wine there is no conversation. Yea…but they do prove to be useful. This sounds bad for business.
13 What do you have in your pockets?
Short stem pipe. Diamond engagement ring. A golden Galifar minted in 973 YK.
14 Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
I often dont know what to do with my hands, and frequently put them in and out of my pockets, clasp them behind my back, and play with the small objects I carry around in my pockets, typically the gold Galifar.
Part 2: Growing Up
15 How would you describe your childhood in general?
Childhood was happy and productive. Gwen grew up next door to my aunts place, and we became friends long before I can remember. I would spend far more time with her and her family than I would with mine. I rarely saw my parents due to their heavy involvement in House business, but in 990YK my father piloted the first airship from Trolanport to Stormhome, and I was there at the dock when he arrived. I was the first in Stormhome to set foot on an airship. Father gave a copy of his full report of the expedition to me on his way to deliver it to The Firstborn, so I was the first to have that as well. It now sits in the drawer of the desk in the captains quarters aboard The Lady Dekker. This happened in the spring of 990YK, just a few months after my 17th birthday. I grew up knowing that ships go on water. Now they don’t have to. That was the single most defining moment of my life. In that moment of realization I looked up into the sky, fluffy white clouds drifting gently by, and understood that I never did like the seas limitations. I smiled.
16 What is your earliest memory?
I was sitting on my fathers shoulders sailing a galleon around the harbor in Stormhome.
17 How much schooling have you had?
I received the same basic academic education that every heir of House Lyrandar receives, but I joined The Windwrights Guild in 989YK at the age of 16. Being a sailor has been my dream for as long as I can remember…Now I dream of slitting Krozen’s throat.
18 Did you enjoy school?
I enjoyed school well enough but was anxious for my 16th birthday to arrive so I could board a ship and set sail for the horizon.
19 Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
My father taught me some when the time was available, and Aunt Flerentia taught me everything I know about women, but my sailing skills I picked up quickly on the job.
20 While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.
I always looked up to my father, but Huys Dekker, Gwen’s father, was around far more often, and I ended up spending a lot of time with the Dekkers. I’d say a lot of my ingenuity comes from him. He definitely inspired a number of my more creative practical jokes. He was also one of the shipwrights in Stormhome, and taught me quite a bit about the ins and outs of ships.
21 While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
I got along with my aunt and cousins well enough, but was often spending time with Gwen and her brother Shane. Versa never approved of a lot of what the three of us would get into and she would always tell aunt Flerentia whenever she could. She was never any fun.
22 As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
23 As a child, what were your favorite activities?
I, like most normal children (not Versa), would roam the streets of Stormhome pretending to be on an adventure in Xen’Drik, or braving the storms around Argoneesen to uncover the secrets of the dragons. Naturally I was pretending to be a Windwright Captain setting sail for the next horizon.
24 As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?
Some would say that I often had a glint in my eye as if something I’d planned was about to erupt in someone else’s face. I can’t fault anyone for that, though. I did plan a lot of practical jokes. I would have stopped picking on Versa if she would have just lightened up a bit. Of course I could talk my way out of trouble most of the time, and was always very delicate with my tongue around my elders which mitigated quite a number of issues. Now, when someone really needed help I was always there to lend a hand…funny how things change huh?
25 As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?
I wasn’t unpopular per se, but I was a well known prankster so I wasnt the king of Stormhome either. Mostly I’d spend my time with Gwen and Shane roaming the streets, getting into innocent scuffles, and harassing Versa. Even aunt Flerentia agreed, privately, that Versa needs to chill, but that fact never got me off for the bucket of oatmeal, or the closet gremlins, and especially not for the soft-boiled egg incident of 981YK. I doubt she’ll ever fully forgive me for that one.
26 When and with whom was your first kiss?
14 Therendor 988YK. Gwen and I went on our first real date which ended in The Great Tree in Lyrandar Park on the southern coast of Stormhome.
27 Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?
On the following year, the night before I went on my first journey for The House, and Gwen set off for her training in Arcanix, Gwen and I stayed at The Winds Favor Inn near the docks. Our meal was excellent, topped off with a bottle of Bluevine, my personal favorite, and the rest of the evening can only be described as magic in its purist form.
28 If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.
My father, being one of the most well respected captains of his day, along with the House’s rapid rise to power pushed me to become a captain. I have been fascinated by elemental bound vessels for quite some time now, and have read many books on artifice.
Part 3: Past Influences
29 What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
21st birthday receiving the news of the death of Gwen, and my parents.
30 Who has had the most influence on you?
31 What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Gaining recognition for the Firstborn Esravash d’Lyrandar and receiving access to The Lady Dekker
32 What is your greatest regret?
I wish I had asked Gwen, and my parents to stay in Stormhome for Olarune. The war was still in full swing, and it was common for there to be delays with missions. I could have asked. Father could have passed the mission on to another. I could have asked.
33 What is the most evil thing you have ever done?
I acknowledge the mentalities and desires of Pinter Malus, Lilane Montdragon, and Bonesaw. Not only that I perpetuate them, and use them to my own advantage.
34 Do you have a criminal record of any kind?
35 When was the time you were the most frightened?
On my first voyage, during one of the Lhazaar seas violent summer storms, the boom, which I apparently did not secure well enough, swung up and knocked me into the frigid waters. Praise the Firstborn for Dover Bateu who was foolhardy enough to dive in after me, even if he was wise enough to secure himself to the railing first. I was partially conscious when I hit the water; the cold only registering dimly. I had lost my breath when I got hit and as I fell I knew I was done for. Once my impending doom hit me all I could think of was not seeing Gwen, and my parents again. Memories of the night in The Great Tree, and the night at The Winds Favor Inn spun around me. Darkness enveloped me. My last thought was that it seemed something had wrapped around my middle. A sea monster perhaps. I awoke two days later in one of the beds of a passengers cabin. Dover was laying on the bed next to me reading.
36 What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
Every member of the crew was allowed to strap me while I was hung up in the rigging for what had happened the night of the storm. As each crew member got their turn the rest stood and watched, lips drawn tight, and a hard look in their eyes. The captain stood directly in front of me, eyes locked with mine through the entire affair. They had a right to be mad. I risked all of their lives with that faulty knot. All of this was expected and deserved, but what came next took me completely off guard. The last crew member to strap me was Dover himself. When I was hoisted down from the rigging the captain ordered Dover to be stripped and hung up as I was. Oddly, Dover didn’t seem surprised, but I was certainly taken aback, as was much of the crew. The captain then ordered me to strap Dover as many times as I was strapped by the entire crew combined. “The man will be punished for being so downright stupid to dive in after you” the captain had said. The entire crew watched in solemn silence as I strapped a man I’ve known since birth, the man who saved my life, 100 times.
37 If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?
I would have held off getting the engagement ring engraved so I could have given it to Gwen before she left. Who knows, maybe it would have made her stay.
38 What is your best memory?
The night in The Great Tree with Gwen.
39 What is your worst memory?
My 21st birthday.
Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions
40 Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?
I am very optimistic these days. It seems the success that I’ve had lately has boosted my confidence. I’m starting to understand that old Aundairian adage “A positive attitude will bring positive results.”
41 What is your greatest fear?
I have known from a very young age that aunt Flerentia’s anger is nothing to be trifled with. She rarely displays her anger, but when she erupts she’s a force to be reckoned with. I realize that most of the business I do is frowned upon, and more than one could get me excoriated from House Lyrandar. Without the House’s backing my power will disipate precipitously. This cannot happen.
42 What are your religious views?
Praise be to Kol Korran! With enough gold anything cam be yours! I don’t care much about the other religions, except my vengance on High Cardinal Krozen and the Silver Flame. I do happen to owe a cleric of the Blood of Vol my life, but I feel nothing for the faith as a whole.
43 What are your political views?
My political views are simple: I am loyal to House Lyrandar, and outside of that I will make marionettes of the Sharn city council. Control of the Skydock will be in my hands, and anything I want to come into the city will. I intend to get a few people onto the council that speak the words I put in their mouth. I will then push the council to declare Sharn its own independant city-state, and with the aid of the Dragonmarked Houses it will be possible. This will put Breland in an ackward position. They have Droaam amassing on their western border, and soon one of their Assemblymen is going to be caught in a sticky situation with The Church of the Silver Flame, and the expected result will be highly increased tensions between Breland and Thrane. Thaliost is still in the control of Thrane, and many Aundairians want to take it back. There is bound to be a liberation front in Thaliost and with proper supplies they will be able to erupt inside Thrane hopefully dragging Aundair into the mix. Three of the Five Nations will be back at it, and in full swing soon after. With some careful prodding of the Court in Valenar the Elves will push into the Talenta Plains roping in the Halflings. Karrnath wont have a choice but to get involved as well. If all goes as planned the war will be back in full swing by Olarune 1001YK. House Lyrandar will make a killing.
44 What are your views on sex?
I have no moral objection to sex, and dont really care what others do. (Shivoden WhatsHisname better not knock up Jix. She has a job to do.) Gwen was the love of my life, and with her gone I have little interest in sex. (We’ll see what Vilina’s impact will be.)
45 Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?
I don’t like to waste a tool unless absolutely necessary, and I have a reputation to uphold as a Scion of House Lyrandar, but when the need arises I will perform the act. However I leave the torture to the likes of Pinter, and Bonesaw. I have no desire to be able to stomach whatever it is those two do when their alone. I’ve seen what they’ll do in public. I try to make a point of being somewhere else when they do their thing. As I said: Reputation.
46 In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?
I can’t stand arbitrary slaughter. Sometimes people need to die, but they are specific people. Arbitrary slaughter just draws attention.
47 Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?
Yes. I found her, and then she was stolen. Krozen will die!
48 What do you believe makes a successful life?
Freedom, good friends, a warm bed, and a bottomless bottle of wine.
49 How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?
For the most part I’m fairly open…at least with those I trust. I don’t, however, speak much of Gwen. Aside from that I’m very open. I have such a public persona that hiding is rarely an option.
50 Do you have any biases or prejudices?
I’m wary of everyone, especially those I work with, and even House Lyrandar. Changelings too. You can never know who they are. That doesn’t stop me from doing business with them, but it does keep me on guard. The Silver Flame will fall. Murderous dogs!
51 Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?
Aside from joining the Silver Flame, not really. I’ll do whatever is necessary to achieve my goals, but I ensure that its necessary, whatever it is.
52 Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?
I would’ve died for Gwen, but without her there is no one.
Part 5: Relationships With Others
53 In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?
The Silver Flame is met with animosity and loathing, but in public I keep a mask on so as not to attract too much attention. With most Daask members I treat them like the scum they are, but Cavalah is quite dangerous, so I try to be tactful. The rest of society gets a polite treatment if sometimes a curt response.
54 Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
Gwen has always been more important to men than the whole world. With her gone I concern myself with #1.
55 Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
I respect many including The Firstborn, Huys Dekker, and even Cavalah, but above all else I respect my father. He was the first to pilot an airship, and few ever matched his skills.
56 Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.
Well Shane Decker showed up recently. I haven’t seen him in years. There are a few others from my childhood I haven’t seen in quite some time, but haven’t yet heard of their death. Those I work with I cannot bring myself to call friends. They’re crazy. Useful, but crazy.
57 Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.
I am not married. I am lost. All that’s left of Gwen is a ring. I had a chance to give it to her, but wanted it to be engraved. That took too long.
58 Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.
Gwen and I became friends before we could remember. We were rarely apart, and that’s how we wanted it. Unfortunately life gets in your way sometimes. She had this innate talent with the arcane arts, and eventually had to leave Stormhome to train. Knowing that she was headed to Arcanix and I to the salt we confessed our love to each other the night before we left. Magical doesn’t begin to describe it.
59 What do you look for in a potential lover?
I’ve always appreciated a sense of humor, and a willingness for practical jokes. Intrinsically I know that I need someone to keep my ambition in check. As you may have noticed, it’s been running wild lately. At this point I’ll also need someone who will tolerate if not accept my current business practices.
60 How close are you to your family?
When I was growing up I was fairly close with my aunt, and cousins, though Versa was rarely any fun, often ratting on me Gwen and Shane when we were planning some prank.
Since Gwen’s death I haven’t spoken much with my family. I crawled into a bottle when I got the news and didn’t leave until aunt Flerentia kicked me out of the house for making a fool of myself yet again. I’m pretty sure that aunt Flerentia is aware of my rise within the House and of my trip to Stormhome. She’s probably disappointed about my not coming to visit. Though to be fair, Lilane was with me.
61 Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?
I don’t think I could do that without Gwen.
62 Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?
I used to think I could still turn to aunt Flerentia, but who can I really turn to these days, when my troubles would be truly dire, and of my own making?
63 Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?
Bonesaw has saved my life more times than I can count. We both have an understanding that we’re more valuable to each other alive than dead.
64 If you died or went missing, who would miss you?
Aunt Flerentia would probably miss me, as well as the party, but they would probably miss the free transportation than anything else.
65 Who is the person you despise the most, and why?
High Cardinal Krozen ordered the public hanging of my fiance. The agony he will suffer at my hands will be able to fill Demnoc’s pool many times over.
66 Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
I’ll argue with anyone who is wrong. I would rather do battle with words than blades. Some, however, need to have their throat laid open to keep their vile lies from reach my ears.
67 Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
I am the leader of this rag-tag band of villainous miscreants. I’m also an airship captain of the highest caliber. I’d say, yes, I often take on leadership roles. The others just can’t be trusted to be civilized.
68 Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
I like interacting with groups large and small. You never know who can be useful.
69 Do you care what others think of you?
I don’t care about other opinions on a personal level…its about business. I have to keep up appearances.
Part 6: Likes And Dislikes
70 What is/are your favorite hobbies and pastimes?
It’s hard to go wrong with a glass of wine and a pipe before a bard performing the Epic of the Valiant and Vigilant. I love that story! I also like to read biographies of captains, books on Artifice, and anything about airships.
71 What is your most treasured possession?
Gwen’s engagement ring.
72 What is your favorite color?
73 What is your favorite food?
Grilled pheasant w/ spicy mushroom sauce…though Cook’s goblin fingers are hard to disagree with.
74 What, if anything, do you like to read?
I read books on Artifice, biographies of captains, and anything on airships.
75 What is your idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?
I find it hard to go wrong with an eloquent bard with an epic tale. As far as music is concerned I enjoy the contemporary lute and mandolin, as well as classical harp. At Brewfest there was this trio of bards playing some strange new kind of music with a raw, kick you in the teeth, sort of sound. They called themselves “The Falling Boulders”.
76 Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs? If so, why? Do you want to quit?
Like every Aundairian I enjoy a glass of fine wine, and like every Windwright Captain I enjoy a pipe, but I leave the drug use to those handing me their coin.
77 How do you spend a typical Saturday night?
Nothing is typical these days, but given the chance, I will sit back with a bottle of wine, and my pipe, enjoying the evenings entertainment at the Wench
78 What makes you laugh?
79 What, if anything, shocks or offends you?
Little shocks or offends me having spent so much time with Pinter and Bonesaw
80 What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself?
I’d start with a bottle of wine and a pipe, and if that doesn’t work then I’ll move to Cap’n Orcman’s Rum. I also might surprise the crew and run drills, and if I’m already on the ship I’ll just stand at the helm, watching the world zoom by, playing my lute.
81 How do you deal with stress?
Wine and a pipe.
82 Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?
I like to plan if I have the time, but I can fly by the seat of my pants if necessary. I’ve become pretty good at the latter over the past year.
83 What are your pet peeves?
Supplies on the ship not being in their proper place, not having the bottle of wine left on the table, anyone who constantly bums pipe tabac…oh, and Hugh Jackman.
Part 7: Self Images And Etc.
84 Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?
There is no such thing as routine in my life. But, when in Sharn I get up between 8 and 9 am, head to The Wench, have breakfast while discussing business with my associates. I’m laid back, and flexible so I’m not bothered by this “routine” being disrupted. When on the ship I get up and head to the helm. I pack a pipe and watch the world zoom by.
85 What is your greatest strength as a person?
I get along with others and have a witty, silken tongue. I am also a man of many, many talents.
86 What is your greatest weakness?
Alcoholism, and Gwen.
87 If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Why would you need to change perfection?
88 Are you generally introverted or extroverted?
I’m very extroverted. I love conversation and engaging with others. I also like to play my lute, but know I don’t practice enough to compare to the likes of Thom Morrus, or The Falling Boulders, let alone Shivodin Whatshisname.
89 Are you generally organized or messy?
As a captain you need to be organized, but some I’ve met take it to an extreme that I just cannot fathom.
90 Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.
I can weasel out information that others would like to keep hidden, with mere words I can manipulate others to do my bidding, and, of course, fly an airship better than anyone else living.
I have a hard time hiding my affiliation to House Lyrandar. It makes for pretending to be others quite difficult. Having been raised in Aundair I know a bit about horses, but I’ve never been particularly good at riding, and every other animal balks at my commands. I’m also a product of civilization. I fear the day I’m stranded in the wilderness. I’ll probably get eaten by a bear before I find water…let alone where I’m going.
91 Do you like yourself?
I adore myself. Who wouldn’t? The only person more deserving of adoration would be Gwen.
92 What are your reasons for being an adventurer (or doing the strange and heroic things that RPG characters do)? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons…)
Seeing the world, meeting new people, relaxing with wine and a pipe…these are simply a bonus. Golden Gallifars are the true prize…and seeing Krozen’s head in a different place than the rest of his body.
93 What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?
Revenge. Krozen will suffer for what he’s done, and only when I’ve extracted every ounce of agony from his pitiful soul will I let him die.
94 Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
”Commodore Haix d’Lyrandar, Uncrowned King of Sharn. That has a nice ring to it.” – Haix musing to himself
95 If you could choose, how would you want to die?
If it must be so, then a glorious crash into the cathedral of The Silver Flame in Flamekeep.
96 If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.
Have a bottle of Bluevine (973YK), and buy featherfall tokens for the entire crew and set sail for Flamekeep. I may be selfish, but the crew need not suffer.
97 What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?
To be the greatest airship captain to ever grace the skies of Eberron.
98 What three words best describe your personality?
Confident, careful, and daft.
99 What three words would others probably use to describe you?
Arrogant, pretentious, and manipulative.
100 If you could, what advice would you, the player, give to your character? (You might even want to speak as if he or she were sitting right here in front of you, and use proper tone so he or she might heed your advice…)
Be wary. You associate with some very unsavory characters. They may be useful, but the can, and probably will, bring trouble to bite you in the ass. Bonesaw is quite demented, Pinter is sadistic, and Lilaneis insane…very, very insane. You may consider yourself cautious, but you need to be more so. Gwen would not want you to ruin your career for such creatures devoid of morals. Keep your eyes on the price…Commodore Haix d’Lyrandar, Uncrowned King of Sharn. Bonesaw, Pinter, and Lilane are tools to be used to achieve your goals, not friends to sacrifice yourself for.
